Eczema Skin Infections – Yeast and Staph

A yeast infection, which is frequently referred to as candidiasis is defined as a “fungal infection of any of the Candidia species, of which Candida albicans is the most common. The organisms of yeast are always present in all people, but are usually prohibited from ‘overgrowth’ (unrestrained multiplication resulting in symptoms) by naturally occurring microorganisms.”

Staph Infection

A staph infection (or staphyloccals infection) in contrast is defined as “any infection caused by one or more pathogenic species. It is most frequently characterized by the formation of abscesses on the skin or in other organs.” Staph infections are caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus.

The bulk of staph infections are hair follicles that are infected or an infection of the eyelid, known as a stye. Yeast infections are inclined to develop in warm and moist areas of the body such as the underarm region. For women, they very commonly develop in the vagina because of an imbalance of good to bad bacteria. For any number of reasons, vaginal yeast infections can start. Infants often obtain yeast infections in the diaper region or in their mouths (known as thrush).

Dry Skin is Enemy to Eczema

Dry Skin is the enemy when it matters to eczema. Dry, itchy skin can lead to cuts, cracks and blisters of the skin which can then leave the door open for infections to attack the body. Yeast and staph are the two most widespread types of infections for those with eczema (pronounced ‘staff’). These two types of infections often attack those with diluted immune systems so an eczema sufferer’s vulnerability to contract either of these types of infections is high.

Irrespective of whether an eczema sufferer had a weaker immune system prior to they developed the skin condition or whether it became weaker due to the eczema it is crucial to try to prevent other infections. In the case of both, maintain your body clean and well moisturized at all times. After vigorous exercise shower immediately and always dry yourself off thoroughly before getting dressed.

Any broken skin such as cuts, scrapes, blisters and even eczema rashes should be cleaned and an antibiotic cream used to encourage healing. When the skin is open and exposed keep it covered with a bandage to defend it from further injury and the entrance of bacteria. With broken skin, staph infections can occur very easily.

Preventive Measures for Yeast Infections

To help prevent yeast infections don’t wear tight, confining clothing and just as with the staph infection prevention, keep your skin clean and well lubricated. Skin with lots of natural moisture does not damage as easily so faithfully keep up with your moisturizing regime. Also, avoid eating mushrooms and other types of funguses and think taking a probiotic. Probiotics are healthy bacteria that keep the bad bacteria in the body from outnumbering the good bacteria.

Lactobacillus acidophilus is most popular type of probiotic. These can be found in capsule form and can be purchased at health food stores or the alternative health food section at your local grocery store. Also, many types of yogurt contain this source of good bacteria. To guarantee that this is indeed the case, always read the labels.
