Itchy Eczema with Grown Males
Eczema equally afflicts men and women alike. It can easily build up at any age but atopic eczema, the most extensive form, is most likely to make an appearance when a man is in his twenties or thirties. Men have an inclination to visit their doctors less often than women do, always making the supposition that there is nothing wrong with them. Unfortunately where eczema is alarmed medical attention is required.
The frustrating cycle of itch scratch, itch scratch that affects so many male eczema victims can leave skin red, inflamed, and raged. Not only does eczema cause men physical distress it can also lead to serious psychological problems as well as work related concerns and personal relationship woes. About ten percent of the United States population suffers from eczema in one form or another. This works out to be an average of fifteen million people in any given year.
Atopic Dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis which is the most widespread form of eczema affects the face (especially the creases of the nose), the elbows, knees, between the toes and any folds in the skin. This type is very itchy and causes the skin to be red and very dry. Men often experience seborrhoeic eczema more often than women do. This form is a mild to moderate form of dandruff that first appears on the scalp but can easily spread to parts of the face such as the eyebrows, eyelids, forehead, ears and chin and can continue to spread to the neck and chest area.
Seborrhoeic Dermatitis
Seborrhoeic dermatitis or eczema is believed to be caused by a yeast overgrowth. This type usually itches but in some cases it does not. Over-the-counter medications can be found in pharmacies and grocery stores. The shampoos contain the ingredients selenium sulfide, coal tar, zinc pyrithione and/or salicylic acid. Steroids creams are often used to treat it and they have proven to be effective.
Hand Dermatitis
Hand dermatitis commonly afflicts men who work at job where their hands are in and out of water or other liquids on a regular basis or else where their hands are subjected to an irritant such as harsh detergents or industrial cleaners, chemical, solvents or metals.
Moisturizers
There are ways to decrease the itching of eczema for men as well as to decrease on other annoying symptoms. First of all commit to a moisturizing plan and go about it faithfully morning and night and more often if necessary. Washing takes natural moisture away from the skin while dehydrating it with skin quenching moisturizers afterwards puts the moisture back in.
Always remember to replenish your skin. It is best to apply moisturizer when skin is still moist after a shower or bath. This is an added way to lock in natural oils to the skin. Always bathe in warm or lukewarm water and never scrub or rub your skin exceptionally. As an alternative pat it gently. It’s finest to choose products made of petroleum jelly since it is greasy and is “highly efficient at providing an airtight moisture barrier.”
Corticosteroids
When eczema is its most harsh corticosteroids obtained through prescriptions are necessary whether they are in the forms of creams, lotions or ointments. The disadvantage of corticosteroids is that a prolonged use of them can thin the skin and also cause stretch marks on the skin.
